The United Kletzker Relief was organized many years before World War II, with the purpose of helping the institutions and the needy in our home town. We had reached the climax of our achievements in 1937 at the time of the fire in Kletzk. We then sent the sum of five thousand dollars to help the sufferers rebuild their homes.
In 1939, our activities were interrupted, due to the war. Reports were received of the terrible fate which had overtaken our people in that vicinity; but because of the German occupation, contact was made entirely impossible.
It was not until the year 1944, when the brave Red Army had forced the Germans to withdraw from this territory that we again began to hear the familiar names of cities and towns that were gradually being liberated from the Nazi Yoke. More concrete reports were received about the horrible catastrophe that had taken place in Kletzk---a catastrophe that has no equal in the history of mankind.
The United Kletzker Relief immediately assumed its great responsibility and was reorganized with the purpose of helping the survivors in our home-town.
As a representative organization of all our “landsleit” regardless of social differences and political beliefs, the United Kletzker Relief consists of members of the following organizations:
Independent Kletzker Brotherly Aid Association
Kletzker Young Men’s Benevolent Association
Lodge 419, Jewish Peoples Fraternal Order
Kletzker Young Ladies Society
Kletzker Ladies Auxiliary

Nor does it exclude individuals who take an active part in its work. Branches of the United Kletzker Relief have also been organized in Newark and Passaic. We are all united for one cause—to give aid to the survivors.
Although, we mourn for our dead, the living are the foundation of the future. Many of our brothers and sisters who were rescued by the Soviet evacuation, and also those who joined the Partisans have already returned to Kletzk. Many more who are scattered throughout Soviet Russia, eventually will come back there.
We, the Kletzker “landsleit” in America, will do our utmost to help them. We have already sent clothing and food, and we pledge ourselves to send more clothing, food and medications, as temporary aid; but, above all, we are concerned with constructive rehabilitation, in order to establish them as useful citizens of the Soviet Republic.
With this plan in mind, we have arranged a program for the future and we appeal to all the “landsleit” to whom thee name of our home-town is dear, to co-operate with us in our work.
The Nazis wanted to wipe us off the face of the earth -- Our anstwer must be “Rebuild the Ruins.” We are confident of your support.
